The name's Yvonne, how do you do? Just a 20-something trying to get through life. Started with the intent of artistic endeavors but got sidetracked with reblogs. Lover of creative things, equality, Doctor Who and A:TLA. She'd love to hear from you!

This is a little off topic for what I usually write, but oh my Jesus.

whyvofitspo:

I just went on the “thigh gap” tag. Oh my Jesus. Oh. My. Jesus.

90% of the posts are also pro-ana or pro-mia, and I…

Girls. It’s not. That. Serious.

I know you will probably see me as another fitspo on a soapbox, but please listen.

You are working so hard to lose weight. You are exercising to death, fasting or purging, constantly checking your weight and checking to see if your hip bones are showing yet. But I don’t know if you realize, but you’re making yourself weak. Your bones are lacking the vitamins it needs to stay strong, your muscles are wilting away. You are sabotaging yourself all for that “look”, and a lot of you are still miserable. You don’t need to do that.

You are beautiful. All of you. Every single one of you. You don’t need a thigh gap or to see your ribs or to weigh less than 100 lbs. to be beautiful because you already are. There are diamonds in your smiles and starlight in your eyes. No matter what size or weight you are, there are people out there who think you are drop dead gorgeous. And you are. Get out there and flaunt it. Love your body for what it is. Being able to wrap your hand around your thigh will not make you happy, nor will that thigh gap or those collar bones or that flat tummy. Loving yourself will.

I understand if you are out of the healthy weight range or are thicker than you’d like to be or have some flab here or some jiggle there and you’d want to change that. But please do it healthfully. With a proper diet (not going hungry, eating healthy foods, not skimping on calories) and exercise (muscle toning and cardio). But everything in moderation. You can have a bit of sweet here and salty there, but don’t overdo it. It’s great to exercise, but don’t overdo it. Just like moderation with food. Food is not the enemy or an obstacle; food is to your body as gas is too a car. But what good is overfilling the car, or having it only run on empty? Either way, it’ll cause the car to break down.

If you wanna be thin, then be thin! But be healthy. Treat yourself well. And be happy. And God knows it’s not that easy, but you already know how to work hard. You can persevere, you can get through this. And there are a bunch of people ready and willing to support you. And I personally volunteer if you ca’t find someone.

There are people out there that love you already. Please, love yourself.

I originally posted this on here when I meant to post it on my fitspo blog, but this should probably be here too.
